Current position:

Assistant Head of Academy

Current school:

Staniland Academy

Current phase and year group teaching in:

Currently teaching in Year 6

Current leadership responsibility:

Assistant head, main responsibility is data

Area(s) of expertise:

Mathematics and data.

Background/experience of leadership in subject/area of expertise:

I have been in this role, as assistant head, for a year now and I am starting my second year.  The previous two years I was Key Stage 2 leader and a Mathematics lead the year before that.  Key Stage 2 leader and Mathematics lead were both held at Carlton Road Academy.  As a Mathematics lead I successfully completed the MaST course over two years and introduced the new mathematics calculation policy through liaising with the local authority and attending a range of courses.  Other responsibilities included observing teachers teach Mathematics, having ITT or NQTs observe me and conducting book scrutinies to ensure work was completed to a high standard and that assessments were correct.  In addition to scrutinies and observations, I have led pupil progress meetings for Mathematics and now all subjects as an assistant head.   Through the MaST course, I have also delivered staff meetings and have fed back to staff new developments in the subject and how to improve in the teaching and assessing in Mathematics.  I have also delivered training to ITT teachers on Mathematics and I am currently an NQT mentor as well.

Other responsibilities include being a governor for two other schools as a specialist in Mathematics and assessment, particularly data analysis.  I have a very good working knowledge of FFT and can analyse the academy’s data to highlight the needs of the academy and to help write the academy improvement plan.

Personal ambition statement for SLE deployment:

I am a very motivated practitioner as a Year 6 teacher at Staniland teaching Mathematics.  I am regularly liaising with other schools and Year 6 teachers, particularly in the federation, to discuss best practice and best resources available to use.  My personal ambition as a SLE would be to work with more schools/ academies to ensure Mathematics teaching and assessing is improving across the county.  I aim to provide more training on Mathematics for ITT and NQTs, as well as experienced teachers needing to be more up to date with their approach to teaching Mathematics.  I will be also attending a Maths Hub in Lincoln to improve the reasoning and problem solving from years 5-8.  I also aim for attainment and enjoyment of Mathematics teaching and learning to improve across Lincolnshire.
