Meet the Team

Mark Lassetter, Connect Sports Partnership Manager

My name is Mark Lassetter and having served 23 years in the British Army traveling the world until 2003 when I realised an ambition to become a sports coach and teacher in primary education.

I have always been a keen sportsman, with my main area of expertise being Athletics, having competed internationally for both the Army and Country. In my spare time I am a keen cyclist and golfer.

Over the past three years I have been leading PE across two Boston primary schools, Carlton Road Academy and Staniland Academy. I am excited about the new opportunities that will come about for our local primary children with the formation of a new Sports Partnership and look forward to inspiring the next generation within a competitive, sporting environment.

Bobby Smith, Connect Sports Partnership Coach

Hello, my name is Bobby Smith. I have been working at Staniland Academy for over five years now as a Teaching Assistant and have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Staniland team. I have played football for most of my life and it is something that I am passionate about, especially my football team Tottenham Hotspur! I have worked at Boston United Football Club as a Community Coach for seven years and am proud to be now coaching children as their PE teacher at Staniland Academy. I am looking forward to the forthcoming year!

Travis Portas, Connect Sports Partnership Coach

My name is Travis Portas and I am currently undertaking an apprenticeship in childcare during which I will be teaching students P.E.  I have been a keen footballer since the age of six when I trained with Boston United Academy continuing my football career with them up to the under 21s. I was selected to play for our county football team, representing Lincolnshire in both the U14 and U18 age groups.

I now play for both Holbeach United, in the United Counties League and Skegness Town, in the Lincs League.  I am looking forward to sharing my determination and passion for sport with the next generation of young Lincolnshire sports stars.

Tom Appleyard, Connect Sports Partnership Coach

My name is Tom Appleyard and I am 18 years of age. I have always been interested in sport and from a young age have played Football and Cricket for my local clubs. I played for JFC Boston from 10 years old to 15 years old and subsequently coached the Under 10s. I have played for Boston Cricket Club since I was 13, representing Lincolnshire at under 16 level.

I am a qualified Football Referee and a Level 1 Cricket Coach. I am looking forward to passing on my knowledge, experience and love of sport to a new generation so they can enjoy the opportunities that I did.

Rob Martin, Connect Sports Partnership Coach

My name is Rob Martin and I am a Physical education trainer for Boston Witham Academies Federation. This is my 4th year working within the federation having previously assisted in the delivery of P.E. at our secondary school and managing the Fitness suite at the Haven sixth form. Prior to working for BWAF I spent 3 years at Boston United Football Club providing multi-sports coaching to primary schools throughout Lincolnshire.

Coming from a sport enthusiastic family I have always been passionate about sport. I have also been fortunate enough to represent teams in football, rugby, athletics, badminton & golf. My aim working in this role is to actively promote the participation and improvement of sport and exercise in children’s lives.

James Carr, Connect Sports Partnership Coach

Hello, my name is James Carr. I have been in the federation for 2 years working as an apprentice teaching assistant. This is my first year at Staniland Academy and I am enjoying being part of the team here at Staniland and also being in PE full time now as I worked in a classroom as well as PE last year at Carlton Road. I am a big football fan and have played the sport for most of my life, I also enjoy going to the gym on a regular basis and keeping in shape. I’m looking forward to the year ahead and hope I have a lot of fun!

Courtney Keal- Connect Sports Partnership Coach

Hello, my name is Courtney Keal and I’m the new apprentice joining this team as a P.E teaching assistant. This is will be my first year within the federation, which I am excited about starting. I always wanted to have job within sport, as this have been my dream since I was little.

I have big interested within netball which I used to play when I was little. As well as this I was picked for school netball team in primary and secondary school. I also am interested in football as I used to train for Boston College Women FC which helped me to develop further as a player.

I also in my spare time, I lead kid sport parties at Peter Paine Performance Centre. I really enjoy this as the children can have fun whilst doing sports, which they really enjoy doing. I also have a level 1 WMCA Gym Instructor.
