Kirton Primary School – Teaching Assistants required

We are seeking enthusiastic and conscientious teaching assistants, who enjoy using their own initiative, to join our popular and friendly school. The positions are in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. An interest in, or experience of, children with special educational needs would be an advantage.
The posts will be temporary contracts in the first instance, running until December 2021 (pending a review of the needs of the school).
The successful applicants will hold a relevant qualification in the field of education (NVQ Level 3 or above). GCSE Maths and English (at Grade 4/C or above) are also desirable.
The posts are subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and Barred List check and Disqualification from Caring for Children Regulations disclosure.

We are seeking to employ four Teaching Assistants to support four children with education, health and care plans (EHCPs).
Main duties and responsibilities:-
to meet the needs of the pupil as stipulated in the EHCP under the direction of the class teacher and SENCO.
to liaise with appropriate individuals, including teachers, the SENCO, parents/carers and relevant agencies

Position 1 (17 hours per week):
This position is to work with a child who is smiley, funny, energetic and who likes the outdoors. They have a communication and interaction need and will require guidance in communicating with their peers. Some personal care may be needed such as dressing, feeding and toileting and they will need guidance with keeping themselves safe and understanding danger. They need support with managing, de-escalating and regulating emotions, particularly when feeling distressed and frustrated. It is important for their instructions to be broken down into manageable steps and a focus for their learning support is speech and language, phonics, number and fine motor skills.

Position 2 (17 hours per week):
This position is to work with a child who enjoys humour, painting and the outdoors. They have social and communication needs so will require support with their speech and language, communicating and interacting with peers and someone to give them secure emotional support. They need help regulating and managing theiremotions and understanding these as well as others’ emotions. Regular support for maintaining attention will be useful and sensory support in all areas is required.

Position 3 (21 hours per week):
This position is to work with a child who is friendly, positive and sociable with their peers. They have a severe bilateral hearing loss and wear hearing aids full time. Support for the use and maintenance of hearing aids and equipment will be required throughout the day and daily checks will need to be completed. They have a cognitive and learning need so the main focus of learning support will be speech and language, phonics, writing and reading activities including comprehension.

Position 4 (27 hours per week):
This position is to work with a child who likes music, is inquisitive and is interested in how things work and happen. They have social and communication needs so will require support with peer interaction, understanding social cues and will need someone to give them secure emotional support. It is important to reassure them that they are safe and provide them with sensory support. They need help regulating and managing their emotions and understanding these as well as others’ emotions. The main focus of learning support will be maintaining concentration of tasks, English, maths and breaking instructions down into manageable steps where necessary. A range of behaviour management techniques will be beneficial to support this child.
